Coming to Denmark / Municipality of Lyngby-Taarbæk
Practical matters to attend to when coming to Denmark
Most important when coming to Denmark
In Denmark each person has a personal registration number, which is called a CPR number. CPR stands for Central Person Register. The CPR number is essential in relation to any contact with the Danish authorities and especially in connection to tax and social security issues.
If you are coming to Denmark to work for more than three months (six months if you come from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland), you need to apply for a CPR number.
When you are living in Lyngby-Taarbæk Municipality you have to apply for a CPR number at International House Copenhagen. If you have any questions regarding CPR registration you can please feel free to contact them.
Find their contact information in the red box on this current page.
MitID is a digital signature that all residents in Denmark need to obtain. The purpose of MitID is for all residents to have one single internet log-in to access their personal accounts at public and private institutions.
Once you receive your CPR number you are covered by the Danish Public Health Care System as long as you live in Denmark. When you get your CPR number you will have been appointed a family doctor (GP).
Making an appointment with your GP
If you need to see your GP be sure to call and make an appointment – preferably between 8am and 9am. Most GP’s have office hours between 8am – 4pm Monday to Friday.
If you get ill outside office hours
Call the Medical Hotline 1-8-1-3 and a nurse will be answering.
