Danish language support
Regular Class with Language Support (Preschool Class – Grade 8)
Newly arrived pupils who are assigned to a regular class with language support are automatically enrolled in an age-appropriate mainstream class at the assigned school. The child alternates between lessons in the mainstream class and small-group language support with up to seven pupils.
The following schools offer regular classes with language support in Lyngby–Taarbæk Municipality:
- Hummeltofteskolen, Grønnevej 218, 2830 Virum
- Trongårdsskolen, Trongårdsvej 50, 2800 Kongens Lyngby
- Lindegårdsskolen, Lyngbygårdsvej 39, 2800 Kongens Lyngby

- Lundtofte School, Nøjsomhedsvej 1–11, 2800 Kongens Lyngby
- Kongevejens Skole, Kongsvænget 10, 2830 Virum
Welcome Class (Preschool Class – Grade 2)
Newly arrived pupils who are assigned instruction in a Welcome Class initially receive all their lessons in the Welcome Class. When teachers assess that the child is ready to participate in mainstream education, the child will begin attending selected subjects in one of the school’s mainstream classes.
The following school offers a Welcome Class in Lyngby–Taarbæk Municipality:
- Fuglsanggårdsskolen, Askevænget 10, 2830 Virum
Extended Reception Class (Grades 8–10)
If your child is 14 years old or older, the child will be enrolled at Trongårdsskolen. This programme is intended for young people who arrive in Denmark without Danish language skills, as well as for older pupils in the Danish public school system.
- Trongårdsskolen, Trongårdsvej 50, 2800 Kongens Lyngby
It is the municipality´s bilingual coordinator who, in cooperation with you, recommends where your child should attend classes.
The aim is to incorporate your child into an ordinary class where he/she will be included in the social community and at the same time learn Danish by Danish speaking students.
The Danish language classes are at four levels. The goal is to guide the oldest bilingual students towards the final test in Danish in the lower secondary school.
The younger students will start in an introductory class (velkomstklasse/modtagerklasse) and afterwards be incorporated in an ordinary school class where they will become part of the social and academic community.
If you live in Lyngby–Taarbæk Municipality and your child requires Danish as a second language (basic level), please contact the multilingual coordinator:
